case studies: Past Client work
Corporate Case Study
A sports equipment company asked for more information about a piece of equipment that they manufactured for professional athletes and knew at home, semi-professional, and related sports athletes were buying to see why they were attracted to the product and how to court these markets further.
For this research:
- We contacted some at home and semi-professional athletes that had tagged the brand on social media and conducted interviews with them
- We then did observations of the athletes using the products in their homes and training facilities.
- We completed an insight report for the company, with highlights, quotes from athletes, and forecasts.
- We then met with their outside marketing team to assist in utilizing the research for their ongoing marketing strategy.
Film case study
A multinational film studio reached out for help with setting a film in an international location, across multiple sites to court this particular international audience.
For this research:
- We prepared a dossier on the requested cultures, with suggestions on locations, opportunities for characters to travel and move within geographies, folklore and mythology, and niche cultural information.
- We met with directors, writers, and producers to go over the dossier and answer questions about cultural possibilties and restrictions, including what might be received well in the international audience.
Corporate Case Study
An Educational Organization requested a curriculum supplement on gender, sex, and sexuality to use in its wellness programs outreach to college students.
For this research:
- We prepared a report that synthesized information related to legislation, media representations, personal accounts, and scientific studies to succinctly and thoroughly explain conceptualizations of sex, sexuality, and gender and the ways they are lived in real people's experiences, particularly for women, people of color, and transgender persons in the United States.
- We worked with a writer and editor at the organization to tailor the guide to their wellness objectives.
- We created data-informed learning activities to be used with the curriculum guide in group environments and compiled resources that the organization can provide for individuals who need help or have questions.
- We provided key areas of insight related to the topic for the organization to pursue in future projects.
MAJOR AREAS OF WORK
Film and TV
We provide cultural research and dossiers for films and television shows that are seeking expert knowledge about possible global settings, culturally relevant plots lines, and met with writers and directors to answer questions.
In this global world, audiences want to see authentic, truthful, and honest portrayals of native people and global cultures. Also, global audiences can be leveraged to grow the foreign box office and those international audiences will appreciate seeing their cultures represented accurately.
Corporate Research
We conduct qualitative and ethnographic research on television and advertising media strategies with regard to knowledge production and consumer understanding. Our work follows the way narrative structures the communication of information and its interpretation by audiences. We deal mainly with the key figures who produce the media (e.g. Executive Producers, Writers, and Directors) and analyzing the product itself. Our research method specialty includes questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, and audience analysis.
